Mitcham Removals

Staying open

Plan backwards from the first thing you need to do

The cost of moving a business is almost never the removal. It is the trading you could not do while it happened, which means the sequence is worth more attention than the speed.

How we think about it

  • Downtime is the real invoice

The cost of a business move is almost never the removal. It is the trading you could not do while it happened, which is why the sequence matters far more than the speed.

  • Move in the order you restart

We plan backwards from the first thing you need to be able to do in the new unit — take an order, pick a pallet, serve a customer — and everything else follows that.

  • Two units, one business

For part of any decent commercial move you are operating from both places at once. That is normal and it is planned for, rather than treated as a failure of the schedule.

  • Out of hours is routine, not a premium

Evenings, weekends and estate-quiet periods are when a great deal of this work happens, and it is quoted as ordinary working rather than as an emergency callout.

  • Tell your neighbours and your customers

Both will be more patient than you expect if they have been told, and considerably less so if they have not. It costs nothing and it prevents most of the friction.

What that looks like

It means something different in each bay

A

Stock

Slow movers out first in bulk, fast movers last. Picking continues from a shrinking corner of the old unit, and the new racking stands before the bulk arrives.

B

Office

Technology first and live before the furniture lands. Desks numbered to the new floor plan so nobody spends the restart pushing things around.

C

Plant

Tooling boxed and listed before the heavy work. Machines moved in the order the shop needs them back, so one job can restart while the rest follows.

D

Counter

Back stock goes early, the trading position goes last and arrives first. One side stays open for as long as it possibly can.

Out of hours

Quoted as ordinary working

Evenings, weekends and the quiet periods on an estate are when a great deal of commercial work has to happen. Charging a premium for the only window in which a business can actually move would be an odd way to do business, so we do not.

What we do need is enough warning to arrange access with whoever controls the gates, because that is the part that depends on other people rather than on us.

Tell us what is moving

Stock, desks, plant or a counter — and where both units are. We will want to see the two yards before we put a number on it, because that is the only way the number means anything.
