Mitcham Removals

About us

A commercial firm, in a commercial town

Mitcham is not mainly a suburb with some industry in it. Willow Lane alone is one of the larger industrial estates in south London, and CR4 has more square footage of unit than most people driving through it would guess.

Why we organise it this way

Most removals firms sell "commercial moves" as one service with a size attached to it. That framing prices the van, and the van is the cheap part. What actually determines the job is which function of the business is moving.

Racking is a structure with a load rating and it comes down and goes up in sequence. An office move is judged on whether people can work at the other end, which makes the technology the job and the furniture the easy bit. A workshop contains machines that need decommissioning by somebody qualified, and solvents we are not allowed to carry at all. A trade counter has customers walking in while the back of the unit empties.

Those are four different problems with four different failure modes. We quote them as four different problems.

The yard comes first

Before we put a number on anything we want to see both units. Dock or ground-level shutter, whether a vehicle can turn in the yard, who controls the gates, what the floors and any mezzanine will take, and whether the route inside survives once the racking starts coming down.

None of that can be established over the phone, and a commercial quote given without it is an assumption with a price attached. It is also the single biggest reason quotes get revised on the day, which is the thing we are trying to avoid.

What we will tell you plainly

Where part of the work is not ours. Some machinery needs a specialist decommission before anybody lifts it. Some floors will not take what somebody promised they would. Some things we are not legally permitted to put in a vehicle at all, and no amount of good will changes that.

Saying so at survey is cheap. Discovering it with the vehicle in the yard is not.

What we are not

This side of the business is commercial. If you are moving a household in Mitcham there are firms locally whose whole operation is built for that, and you will get a better job from one of them than from us.

We are also not a national brand with a local number, and not a lead broker. Your enquiry comes to us, and the person who reads it is the person who plans the job. We have no awards or press coverage to show you and we are not going to invent any.

Tell us what is moving

Stock, desks, plant or a counter — and where both units are. We will want to see the two yards before we put a number on it, because that is the only way the number means anything.
